The Trafigura Foundation has been involved in FXB International’s fight against poverty in Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry since 2010.
The ‘FXB-Village’ programme aims to help families in Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry become financially independent through medical and psychosocial support, nutrition, education, income-generating activities, water and sanitation improvements, and women’s empowerment.
Special attention is given to HIV-affected and/or infected individuals and families in these villages where unemployment and illiteracy are rife. FXB’s multi-pronged approach ensures that these vulnerable communities receive healthcare as well as the kind of training that will enable them to start their own small business and provide for their families.
In 2014, income-generating activities developed well, with three units of poultry, coir-rope and sanitary napkin production operating successfully.
