ATIA Economic Development Programme, India

The Trafigura Foundation has endorsed this programme since 2012. This programme goes hand-in-hand with Inter Aide’s tuberculosis prevention and treatment activities, also supported by the Foundation.

Inter Aide works in close co-operation with local NGOs, the ultimate goal being that families living in the slums become 100% autonomous over time, creating revenue through small businesses. The programme has three main goals:

  • Granting successive loans to start or expand income-generating activities and gradually increase families’ income.
  • Providing and promoting access to savings in order to secure income and build up capital.
  • Delivering training and individual counselling to strengthen the capacities of micro-entrepreneurs, increase their chances of success, and improve their financial resources management.

As at end 2014, a total 15,000 people had taken financial management courses, and 13,000 loans had been disbursed.
